Kyn Taniya’s Radio (1924): Journeys of a Cosmic Cosmopolitan

Abstract

Radio. Poema inalámbrico en trece mensajes by the avant-garde poet Kyn Taniya appeared in 1924. At that time, Mexico was experiencing great enthusiasm for radio, which had just begun its commercial transmissions. Framed by that radio euphoria, Kyn Taniya's book is one of the most original exercises of the Mexican avant-garde of the era. Close to the estridentistas but different from them in many ways, in Radio Kyn Taniya manages to forge his own voice by structuring the book around the concept of radio. The collection poses a journey which explores the new world created by the radio, from the standpoint of a modern poetic sensibility.

Key words: poetry, avant-gardes, radio, Kyn Taniya
