Abstract
This article proposes analyzing the pirekua, a song tradition of the Purépecha people, using the Field of Ethnological Study model to understand it as part of a system of transformations or variants on a common theme, under which lie structural cultural elements shared by said people. Such an analysis would, among other things, also help to explain impacts on Purépecha cultural dynamics resulting from their expansion beyond traditional regional borders.
Keywords: pirekua, Purépecha song, musical traditions, migration
