Among Strings, Brass, and Drums

Abstract

This article explores how music represents, among other aspects, a ritual symbol that serves
to strengthen and integrate the identities of various native peoples of Mexico such as
Nahuas, Mixtecs, Rarámuris, Otomi, Coras and Tzotzils. The author presents a
photographic portfolio that highlights particularities as well as elements shared by the
communities portrayed in the images.
